A busy week ahead for Washington State Government

There’s a lot of activity going on in Olympia this week. Here are a few of the highlights in state government:

Filing Week

All candidates planning to run for public office must register for the August Primary Election with the Secretary of State’s office by this Friday, May 10th. For a recap on the most important dates related to the 2024 election season, check out our blog post from last year. Don’t forget – if your organization is making contributions to campaigns, reporting correctly to the PDC is essential. Click here for a refresher on the rules.

State Interim Committee Meetings

During the interim, committee chairs schedule periodic meetings to discuss pressing issues that have arisen since the end of session, review reports produced by agencies or other interest groups, and discuss topics that may become relevant next session. May 7, 2024

Senate State Government & Elections meets at 10am in the Cherberg Building in Olympia. The committee will hear a work session on the latest redistricting information, and a work session on service members and voting. The meeting will end at 12pm and TVW broadcast it.

Senate Business, Financial Services, Gaming & Trade meets virtually at 1:30pm. The meeting will include a public hearing from the Washington State Gambling Commission regarding the Stillaguamish Indian Gaming Compact Amendment. Scheduled to end by 2:30pm, the meeting will be broadcast on TVW.

May 8, 2024

Senate Local Government, Land Use & Tribal Affairs meets at 11am at the Bellingham City Hall, or virtually. During the meeting, the committee will conduct work sessions regarding the following topics: 1) Urban growth area boundary adjustments; 2) Rural housing; 3) The role of boundary review boards; and, 4) The role of a hearing examiner. Scheduled to conclude at 1pm, the meeting will be available to view on TVW.

May 9, 2024

House Civil Rights & Judiciary will convene virtually at 11am. During the meeting, the committee will conduct a work session regarding Court Innovation Programs. The meeting is scheduled to conclude at 12pm, and is available to view on TVW.
